Weddings By Season: How To Keep It Classy In All Weathers

Getting engaged is one thing but pinning down your date is quite something else! Your first major decision will be when you’ll tie the knot and the season will affect your planning logistics and overall theme. Are you looking for that summer sunset snap or perhaps hoping for a snowy winter wonderland?

This season has a natural romantic beauty about it with blossom trees bursting, spring florals, pastel colours and soft natural colours all around. Spring is a safe and smart time of year to host a larger wedding party as most people arn’t going on holiday and you’re not competing with busier times of year.

Dresswise, the weather should be bright enough to go sleeveless all day, so you can flaunt your dress without shivering. Natural lighting will also be very complimentary in this season and daylight hours are increasing so you can expect a stunning outdoor photoshoot against a blooming flower backdrop.

Spring is still not considered peak season so you may get a better deal when it comes to venue, vendors and your honeymoon.

Its the peak season for weddings and its no mystery why as the days are long and the weather is as good as it gets! It’s also a season of ripe fruits, fresh meats and harvested vegetables bringing your food menu options to life. You can more easily incorporate local cheeses, honey, wines and ales. Variety is a plus in this season.

Summer nights see the sunset at past 9pm so you can be more flexible on your ceremony time. You also have plenty of time to take photos and you can expect guests to stay later. Comfortable weather after sundown lends itself to dancing beneath a starlit sky, or having an open fire to chat around.

Floral arrangements know no limits at this time of year. Almost all blooms will be available so you have a wide choice.

There’s something wonderful about the crisp air, warm sunny hues and falling orange leaves of Autumn. This season is perfect for a rustic barn wedding, country club, museum or hotel. The cloudy sky will give complimentary lighting to your photos, surrounded by natural beauty.

Your wedding colour scheme can go deeper and darker at this time of year. Think royal purple, emerald green or navy blue.

The weather and daylight should still be holding fast at the beginning of this season so you can expect steady weather and enough daylight.

If you’re booking in October or later, think about organising an indoor venue as English weather can get rainy at this time of year. If you are hosting the evening in an outdoor marquee, you may want to organise heating.

A winter wonderland wedding can be spectacular, especially if you have booked a cosy manor house venue or a pub with an open fire. The neutral colour palette of this season can really make your wedding photographs pop as bridesmaids dresses, suits and boquetes will all appear more vibrant in the light. On the other hand, if you’re hoping for snow, it was be very hit and miss in the UK so you may not want to pin your hopes on it. Another negative is that you’ll have less daylight hours for photos.

However, Winter weddings lend themselves to a rich desert table, cheeseboards, hot coco, mulled wine and comfort food. Candles and dimmed lights can add to the calm and relaxed atmosphere.

Lastly, you can expect to save money when booking your vendors during the winter season as its a slower time of year for weddings.
